Overview

The below guide will provide an overview of the steps to take in order to back-up courses and activities on the test site to restore to the live site. This is to allow for building of content to take place on the test site and be tested without having to rebuild from scratch on the live site.

Step 1

Once you have logged into the test site, select the 'Find Learning' button on your main menuthe top toolbar, followed by 'Courses':

Use the 'Search by' and 'Filter by' functions to find the relevant course:

Select the relevant course to be taken through to the course page:




Step 4

Use the 'Backup' option under 'Course administration' on the left of the page to create a copy of the course:




Step 5

Tick all options except 'Include enrolled users' (as you do not need to maintain enrolments between the two sites) then 'Jump to final step' at the bottom of the page:

Click 'Continue' on the following page, then click on the backup file (backup-totara-course0632-hw_test-20230707-1544-nu.mbz, in this example) to download:





Step 7

Open the live site, drop down the admin cog in the top right and select 'Courses and categories':




Step 8

On the following page, use the 'Restore course' option on the left of the page under the 'Courses' block:




Step 9

Drag and drop your saved backup into the 'Files' section and click 'Restore':




Step 10

Ensure the course is restored as a 'new course' on the next page, then select 'Next' to select the relevant category for the course:


Step 11

The remaining pages are dedicated to confirming what you'd like to restore in terms of both settings and activities. This will default to the settings and activities selected when backing up the course and as such, it is possible to click 'Next' through these pages:





Step 12

The final page will ask you to confirm the settings selected and then 'Perform restore'. Once restored, this will create an exact copy of the course as it was built on the test site:
