Overview 

There are number of native theming and appearance settings that can be utilised in AssessBook to change the look and feel of your individual site.

Editing a theme

You can change/set up themes in AssessBook at:

  • Site level i.e. main theme of the site
  • User level i.e. users can set up their own theme
  • Course level i.e. a theme for individual courses
  • Category level i.e. a theme for multiple courses

To edit themes and theme settings, go to the admin menu (settings cog) and select Appearance. On the dropdown menu, click Theme Settings:

From here, you can:

  • Enable themes for a course/user
  • Allow block editing e.g. hide or move blocks

To edit/customise individual themes, on the dropdown menu select Basis to edit the favicon, logo and theme colours:

Editing Main Menu Items

Main menu items appear on the admin menu (settings cog) allowing you to navigate to different areas of AssessBook.

These can be edited via the admin menu (settings cog) and Navigation. On the dropdown menu, select Main Menu and Add new menu item:

Here you can:

  • Select Type - whether it is a URL (link to a page) or Parent (appears at top of page with links below)
  • Parent Item - whether the main menu item should be situated under another parent item
  • Visibility - who can see the menu item

Once created, to edit the access, select the ‘cog’ on the main menu item you wish to edit. Here you can restrict access by role, audience or by preset rule:

Editing the Front Page

You can set up and edit the front page for the site. This page can be used to display important information to users of the site. To edit the front page, go to ‘site admin’ and select ‘navigation’. Then in the sidebar select ‘front page settings’

Here you can:

  • Image RemovedAdd Name
  • Add a Summary
  • Include a topics section: activities and resources on the front page.

When on the front page you can edit the appearance of the front page by clicking ‘turn editing on’. This allows you to:

  • Move the blocks and where they appear on the front page.
  • Edit the content of the blocks.
  • Change permissions: By selecting the cog you can then edit the permissions for the block (who can edit the block and view the block.)


Creating a Dashboard

Dashboards are used as individual learning areas where users can access their learning.

To create a dashboard, go to the admin menu and select Navigation. On the dropdown menu, select Dashboards followed by Create dashboard.

From here, you can:

  • Name the dashboard
  • Lock the dashboard - when enabled users cannot add or edit blocks on their dashboard
  • Allocate the dashboard to an Audience - select for which groups of users this dashboard is available

Once a dashboard is created it can be edited by the user/admin by going to the selected dashboard and clicking 'Blocks editing on'.

From here, it is possible to:

  • Add Blocks
  • Edit Blocks                                                                                                                                                                                                         
  • Configure where the blocks appear i.e. region and weight                                                                        
  • Configure the block appearance i.e. header and border

User Tours

In AssessBook you can set up User Tours to guide users through AssessBook and its features.

To create/set up a user tour, go to the admin menu (settings cog) and select Development. On the dropdown menu, select Experimental > User tours:

. From here, you can create or import a new tour:

It is from here that you can:

  • Enable the tour
  • Decide on placement of information
  • Determine who the tour will be available to
  • Which site theme the tour will use for its appearance settings

Once the tour is created you need to add content to the tour. Click on the selected tour and then Add a new step to configure it via:

  • Step target - where you want to create a tour step
  • Content - what you want the tour step to say
  • Options - how the tour step will appear and work
