Pre-requisites
The course is suitable for both existing and new Managers, however, we recommend one of the following:
- Experience in a Manager role in the Railway Industry, OR
- Attendance on a Railway Basic Principles Course (one-day course)
What's covered in the Course
The course covers:
- Making an initial assessment of the incident
- Gathering relevant evidence
- Planning and conducting an effective interview
- Using “Accimaps” tree of cause and root cause tools
- Understanding human factors, error and violation
- Understanding of immediate, basic and underlying causes
- Making and tracking SMART recommendations
- Report writing
- Investigations into actual events
Qualification
The course will result in the following qualification from City & Guilds, providing candidates successfully complete all work:
- Level 3 NVQ Incident and Accident Investigator Award
Units
The Award is made up of the following units:
- Unit 320 - Respond to incidents in the Rail Industry
- Unit 321 - Carry out investigative interviews in the Rail Industry
Course Delivery
Candidates work towards a City & Guilds Incident and Accident Investigation Award, which is a NVQ Level 3 Award recognised within the Rail Industry. This provides:
- Classroom Training (three-day course)
- Account on AssessBook (AssessTech’s online Learning Management System in which candidates submit evidence and other work for their qualifications)
- Mentorship through investigations, completion of written questions, and assessment
- Registration with City & Guilds
- Certificate upon completion
- ACMS Incident module training (optional)
